A competition winning entry to create modern, naturally lit and ventilated crafts and textile galleries in the upper levels of the Corn Exchange.

Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery was a Stage C commission as a result of an RIBA competition. Located in the centre of the town adjacent to the Cathedral quarter, the Old Corn Exchange Building was designated to accommodate a new art gallery within its roof space.

The roof was designed to be intriguing from a distance to draw visitors to the upper levels of the building. The internal spaces of the gallery are lit through staggered baffles in a new glazed roof and the gallery experience is of a subtly changing natural light.
