The Flagship Building, Homes for the Future, Glasgow, UK
Client: Burrell Company Ltd
Date: 1997 -1999
The project was part of a competition run by Glasgow 1999 Year of Architecture and Design. Situated within a neglected part of Glasgow’s East End the Flagship building forms a pivotal role in this development, consisting of a mixture of loft apartments, flats and commercial units. Adjacent to Glasgow Green, the building is orientated to maximise this vista over the city. To the rear of the building and landscape are directly connected with a pergola structure. This cascades from 5 storeys to form an integral part of the communal garden.
The Flagship building was seen as the starting point of the urban renewal of the wider district and as such has been a success; being awarded the Regeneration Award for Development in Scotland 2000.
